General Relief Work Program (GRWP)
Description
The GRWP oversees the development of governmental and non-profit work sites, assigns GR clients who are able to work to those sites, makes sure that the hours worked are credited at the California State minimum wage against repayable GR benefits paid, and monitors work site performance and job searches conducted by the employable and conditionally employable GR client.
Requirements
Each non-exempt member of the GR household must comply with the requirements of the mandatory GR Work Program.
- Register with GRWP.
- Cooperate with and follow all instructions from GRWP.
- Report to job sites as instructed and maintain satisfactory work habits.
- Complete job skills training and conduct job searches as required by the GRWP.
- Accept job referrals made by the GRWP.
- Accept any offer of appropriate employment which pays at least minimum wage.
Time Limits
General Relief Assistance benefits for clients who are not considered incapacitated, shall not exceed three (3) months out of any twelve (12) month period.
- Clients will be told when they apply what month their benefits will stop. In order to receive additional assistance, you will have to fill out a new application in order to see if you are still eligible.
Sanctions
Sanctions shall be applied when a member of the GR Household fails or refuses without good cause to follow program regulations, policies and Procedures.
Exemptions
The following persons are exempt from participation in the GR Work Program:
- Incapacitated.
- A child under age 16.
- A child age 16 or 17 who is a full-time student in an elementary school, junior high/middle school, high school, or vocational/technical school. Verification of school enrollment is required.
- Age 70 or older.
- An adult responsible for the care of a member of the household on a substantially continuous basis.
